1. Optimise for Google: If your website has a high search engine ranking, you will receive more visitors. Be sure to use key-search-phrases in your page title, headings, and opening paragraph of text.
2. Submit your site to Web Directories: This is a pretty monotonous process, but you can get listed on several hundred websites if you have the time. One of the best directories to submit to is www.dmoz.org.
3. Reciprocal links with similar websites: It’s important to pick sites that are of high relevance so you’ll not only get links but traffic. Reciprocal linking can be useful, but don’t overdo it.
4. Online social networking: There are a lot of social networking websites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Make good use of them to promote yourself as an expert in your niche, and also to communicate with your members / customers.
5. Social bookmarking / voting websites: If you have articles or news items on your website, be sure to promote them with social voting websites like Digg.com.
6. Forums: Sign up for some discussion groups in your niche and start contributing. If possible, link to your organisation’s website in your forum posts. A good place to start looking for a relevant discussion groups is http://answers.yahoo.co.nz.
7. Interact with blogs: Start reading and commenting on relevant and popular blogs in your niche. Focus on building a relationship with other bloggers, by writing relevant comments.
8. Track your website stats: There is no point in working to increase the profile of your website, if you cannot measure the results. Track the results with Google Analytics.
